DETAILS

Pace 13-15 mph on the flats, much slower on the hills.

Come join me as I ride the paved Banks to Vernonia trail.

Be prepared to burn some calories because we'll be climbing for several miles (check out the route map below for more info). Although the climb is fairly gradual, it's still a climb. The great part is once you finish your climb and make it to the top, it's a weeeeeeee......all the way down!  We will stop along the way for restroom breaks and to re-group as needed.

Pack a lunch because we'll be stopping at Vernonia Lake to re-fuel before our descent. Rumor has it, there's an ice cream stand at the lake. That's pretty much the only reason I'm doing this. šŸ¤£  Ok, not really. I do like ice cream, but I also just really like this trail.

Parking can get kind of crazy at the trail head, so we'll park right down the street at Banks Public Library.

A little about the trail:
Banks-Vernonia State Trail is the first ā€œrails-to-trailsā€ park in Oregon. The trail follows an abandoned railroad bed that stretches 21 miles between the cities of Banks and Vernonia.

The trail consists of a paved 8-foot wide hiking and bicycle trail alongside a gravel trail for horses that's about 4-foot wide in most sections. The gentle grade in all but one area allows hikers, bicyclists, equestrians and people of all abilities to enjoy the scenic mountains, fields and forests of Washington and Columbia counties.

I try my best to keep us at the pace posted, but sometimes with a tailwind, or when going downhill, my pace will pick up a bit.
The opposite goes for hills and a headwind, both can slow me down.

Faster and slower rides are welcome to join, but please download the route so you know the way should we get separated.
