How to prepare for night ride

Lights – Required:  Front - white light.  Rear - red light or reflector.
Your lights should help you see the road and be seen by other road users.

Test Ride I
 - Try out your lights on a short night ride.  Can you see?  Do they fall off?

Clothing
 – It's always colder in the dark.  Wear more that you think you'll need.  It's a slow ride so you won't warm up despite all those lights you're going to decorate your bike with.
Wind protection can be a real butt saver.  Consider hand and toe warmers, hat, buff and gloves, thermal everything, wind-block/rain coat.
Reflective stripes are groovy.

Test Ride II
 – T
ry out your clothing choices at a slow pace at night.
Warm enough?
Are you stiff and stuffed like the little brother in A Christmas Story?

Bike Decor
–Jim usually wins Best Bike, but maybe he'll slack off this year.  Knock yourself out just in case.

Test Ride III
–Try out your decorated bike before the real ride.
Can you still pedal despite that fake Santa you hot-glued to your fender?
