DETAILS
This ride explores the rolling hills from Salmon Creek to Ridgefield and back. This ride is the opposite of the Reverse Newliner ride: it runs counter-clockwise compared to the clockwise direction of the Reverse Newliner
The ride starts at the Salmon Creek Starbucks (in the Safeway shopping center) on NE 20th Ave. It proceeds down Salmon Creek then heads north toward Ridgefield via NE 50th Ave. and NE 29th Ave, two lightly-traveled rural roads.
The route crosses I-5 near the Ilani Casino: keep an eye on traffic while traversing the roundabouts!
Unlike the Reverse Newliner, this route skips the stop at Overlook Park in Ridgefield in favor of following Pioneer Street directly to South Hillhurst Road. Hillhurst has a fair amount of car traffic, but headed south there's a wide bike lane and a center turn lane, making for comfortable riding as you head out of town.
Once Hillhurst transforms into NW 31st Ave, you'll tackle a series of rolling hills as you head back toward the start of the ride. Enjoy several thrilling downhills including a steep decent of NW 209th St. Keep an eye out for hawks and eagles as you approach Lake River!
Traffic remains light until you turn on to NE 10th Ave. near the tail-end of the ride. There's a bike lane along NE 10th, but you'll want to keep an eye on traffic as you approach the traffic circle near the Trader Joe's parking lot! There are also bike lanes on NE 139th St as you cross the freeway, but you'll have to cross several lanes of (potentially) fast-moving traffic to get into the left turn lanes that will take you up NE 20th Ave. back to the Safeway parking lot.
