If you have Sidi road (not MTB) shoes, consider reading on. If not- you can give this message a miss.
Have you ever stripped the female receptor threads on a pair of Sidi road shoes by over tightening the cleat screws? If so, Sidi offers an unadvertised solution that could help you and avoid the need to purchase new shoes. Generous offers like this, however, and the other replacement parts available for Sidi shoes, may also give you a good reason to consider purchasing a pair.
The female receptors in the sole of Sidi road shoes are called "tee nuts", and can be replaced if damaged. Sidi mountain shoes need a plate insert- a different fix. You can request replacement tee nuts from a very helpful person named Mike Sipek, their brand support technical rep at sidisupport@qbp.com. Mike has helped me several times and approved my sharing this info with VBC members... although he indicated that this is technically, "... outside the realm of normal support."
Mike advised, when requesting a small part like this, that you provide the following: - Photos of the tee nuts on your shoe, and total quantity requested
- Return shipping address
- Request that he provide the written instructions on how to do the install (essentially, cutting an opening in the inner shoe platform to access and replace the nuts)
- Realistic expectations, in that "... I
may run out of stock, and it may take some time to get more from Sidi,
etc."
I have not been charged for either the replacement parts or shipping. The installation process is fairly straightforward and leaves you with the ability to securely re-affix your road cleats.
I hope you don't encounter this problem, but if you do, I hope this info and fix is of some value.
