Did you know that Portland is one of only six US cities having extinct volcanoes within its boundaries, and the only one located in the lower 48? Come out for a new route to an old favorite and test your legs up Rocky Butte (at 92,000 years old, it is the youngest of the four) and Mt. Tabor (a 600' cinder cone).

RIDE START LOCATIONS

This ride offers two different start locations to accommodate various preferences.

OPTION 1: Clark Public Utilities (9 AM Start)

If you wish to ride the Glen Jackson Bridge (I-205) bike path, please meet the group at the back parking lot of Clark Public Utilities, located at 1200 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver, WA 98663Be ready to ride at 9 AM.

OPTION 2: Home Depot (10 AM Start)

For those who prefer not to ride the Glen Jackson Bridge (I-205) bike path, you have the option to meet the group directly at the Home Depot at the foot of the I-205 Bridge in PortlandThe Home Depot is located at 11633 NE Glenn Widing Dr, Portland. Please park in the far southwest corner of the lot, near but not in the 7-Eleven parking area.

Be ready to ride at 10 AM. If you plan to start from this location, please text the ride leader at 503-334-6356 so he knows to expect you.

RETURN TO HOME DEPOT

When the group connects with Marine Drive at the 32.7-mile mark, Home Depot riders can head east along Marine Drive to return to their vehicles. The Home Depot is approximately 5.3 miles from that point.

This Ride Features:
  • Bike paths, Greenways, bike lanes and low traffic density/speed roads
  • Beautiful settings and views from first- Rocky Butte, and then Mt. Tabor
  • Charming neighborhoods in Maywood, Rocky Butte, Rose Way, Mt. Tabor, Laurelhurst and Irvington
  • Zig-zagging along tree-lined streets through NE Portland on the return
  • Bonus miles out to the end of Tomahawk Island
  • Many restrooms
  • Note: Outbound (south), watch for camps/glass on Portland bikeway underpasses

Check out pictures of select sections of the route on the Ride with GPS site.

We'll stay generally together as the route is rather complex, particularly on the return leg from Mt. Tabor. Okay if fast riders want to hammer on ahead from the start (recommend uploading the route from Ride with GPS). No one will be dropped, however. It will be a plus if someone volunteers to sweep. We can take breaks as needed.

Call the leader @ 503.334.6356 if you have questions. In the event of inclement weather a go/no-go decision will be made and posted no later than 7:30 AM on ride day.
