DETAILS
Get ready for a great day on the Banks-Vernonia State Trail! This 42-mile round trip is on a paved "rails-to-trails" path. Since it's an out-and-back, you can ride as far as you like. You'll enjoy a mostly shaded forest with about 900 feet of elevation gain and loss each way. It's a favorite for good reason! Please remember to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the ride.
We'll stop for lunch in Vernonia, our halfway point.
We'll start at 10:00 AM from the Banks Trailhead. From Portland, go west on US-26 for about 21 miles. Take the exit to the left for State Route 6 towards Banks and Tillamook. Drive 2.5 miles on Highway 6, then exit right for Banks and Forest Grove. At the first traffic light, turn left. Drive 0.8 miles, then turn right onto Banks Road for the Banks-Vernonia Trailhead.
If the trailhead lot is full, don't worry. Extra parking is across the road at Five Star Builders (13981 NW Main St, Banks, OR), or down Main Street near Ziply Fiber Optics.
Carpooling is strongly recommended as it's a long drive and a long day. See you there!
