Sentencing hearing for Crotty, the driver who hit Ken O’Day

In 2024 a driver hit Ken O’Day who was riding with friends, some from VBC.  Ken is recovering, but after a brain injury, stroke, and many broken bones, no one will ever be the same person.

Ken’s VBC friends would write this email, but they were witnesses so legal reasons prevent them. Eventually, they will provide the staggering details of watching the driver speed past their small group on the right, ultimately slamming into Ken at the front. They immediately rushed to Ken and tried to call 911 but had no cell service.

As Ken lay bleeding in the ditch, Crotty was on his phone and refused their pleas to call 911.

Crotty entered a guilty plea to felony vehicular homicide last week. Sentencing will be October 29th.

What can we do?

Aunna, Ken’s wife, would be grateful for the help that only we can provide:

·        Attend the hearing and bring a friend.

·        Wear cycling jerseys, yellow, etc. (even if you don’t bike there).

She wants Crotty and the judge to see us and hear our message: This case matters to the community.

Aunna remains positive, hopeful, and diligent, doing an astounding job of holding things together over these past two years, and will continue to meet the challenges ahead, I’m sure. Please, join me in supporting Aunna and Ken.

Thank you,

Jan
