Buddies -
There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the summer picnic this year, and the picnic raffle in particular. Let's clarify:
If you're planning to attend the picnic, please register using the VBC calendar:
Do not register to attend the picnic using Signup Genius! The picnic is only open to VBC members and guests of members, which Signup Genius can't track, so signups must go through the VBC calendar! If you don't see the picnic event on the calendar for Saturday, September 19th it's probably because you're not logged in!
If you want to volunteer to help with the picnic, that's when you use Signup Genius:
I also want to clarify how the volunteer roles for the picnic's raffle work:
The Raffle Conductors are not responsible for soliciting prizes for the raffle. The conductors hand out raffle tickets, organize raffle prizes, and conduct the actual raffle (e.g. decide on a specific prize to raffle, draw tickets, announce winning ticket numbers, etc).
Members of the Prizes & Awards team contact local businesses (we have a list!) to ask for raffle prize donations. As far as I can tell, nobody signed up to do this, which is why the raffle is in jeopardy this year.
If you want to help with Prizes & Awards please email me ASAP! We're way behind schedule, so it would be ideal if we could get 5-10 people who were willing to help. We'll ask volunteers to reach out to 1-3 vendors (likely via phone or email) to ask for prize donations. Some donations will need to be picked up from the vendor and transported to the picnic. I believe most donors are in Vancouver, but there may be a few in Portland. Donations are small (water bottles, patch kits, multi-tools, etc) so transport should be easy.
Needless to say: if nobody volunteers to help with Prizes & Awards, we're going to have a very short raffle this year.
