Time for another update about what's happening with your club. Not much happened in April, but we're going to make up for that with exciting times in May and June!
URGENT: Moving Help Needed!
As you may know, VBC has been storing everything we use to set up and execute the Ride Around Clark County (RACC) in the Bike Clark County (BCC) location at 1604 Main St. in Vancouver. We own and store a huge collection of folding tables, pop-up canopies, ice chests, water coolers, and dozens upon dozens of totes that contain everything from plastic silverware to marking paint.
Recently, BCC received a major grant that will allow them to dramatically expand their youth cycling programs. The grant is renewable through 2039 and is terrific news for them! We're excited about what this is going to mean for cycling in Vancouver, but it comes with a substantial challenge for us: because BCC will need to maintain a much larger fleet of bicycles to support their programs, they're asking us to move the stuff we store to a new location! BCC has asked that we move our stuff by the end of the RACC weekend.
To make this move happen, we're going to need some help:
We need help finding a new storage location! We're already looking at self-storage locations, but we're wondering if anyone has a lead on storage that might be more affordable for the club? Maybe there's a local business that has some extra warehouse or garage space they'd be willing to donate or lease? Here's what we're trying to find:
- At least 300 sq. ft. (ex: 10' x 30') of storage space in one location
- A secure location
- A commitment to host us for at least 2-3 years; moving will be a big project and we're not eager to repeat it
- After-Hours Access (early evening and weekends around RACC dates)
If you have any leads please let me know! If you're comfortable, feel free to talk with your contact about our requirements so we don't spend time chasing options that won't work.
We need help moving in June 2026! While BCC has given us until the end of RACC, I'm a bit reluctant to try to host a major event and complete a major move in the same weekend. Ideally, I'd like to identify a new storage location and have everything moved by the end of June so we can spend July focused on RACC. Keep any eye on the calendar and Buddies List for an opportunity to help us with this move!
RACC Volunteers Needed!
Judy Boyle, our RACC Coordinator this year, is still looking for people to volunteer to help with RACC! We're especially in need of people to help with:
Set Up (7/24) & Tear Down (7/25): spend a couple of hours in the evening helping us set up and tear down equipment used to host RACC. We'll need to transport equipment from various RACC sites to and from storage, so having a truck or SUV is highly recommended. This is one of the most critical tasks and almost nobody has volunteered!
Parking Coordinator (7/25): As the first point of contact, sets the event's tone by providing a warm welcome and clear direction. Responsible for ensuring a safe, organized flow of traffic into parking areas and guiding participants efficiently from their vehicles to the registration area and start line.
Onsite Registration & Sign-In (7/25): Responsible for ensuring every rider is officially accounted for before they hit the route. The crew works together to provide a seamless check-in experience, processing pre-registered participants and handling new on-site registrations with speed and accuracy.
