Distance: 5-10 mi  Terrain: Flat  Elevation Gain: none  Pace: 8-12mph
When: Mondays, 5:30pm

Ride Type:  No rider left behind.

Route varies.  Cemetery, neighborhoods, city streets with bike lanes.

Weather Cancels?

Ride cancelled for lightning, snow, ice.  We ride in light rain because, geez, it's the Pacific Northwest!

Description:

Do you know how to ride but are concerned about safety on the road, how to best shift those many gears, or afraid you'll get a flat tire?  Just getting started or starting again?

This ride series is just for you.

We'll cover a number of bike related topics including helmet fitting, rules of the road, equipment/gear, safety/street smarts, and how to choose rides and routes. Post-ride there will be plenty of time for Q&A, social networking, and occasional no-host dinner at a nearby restaurant.

FAQs:

What do I need to bring?

Bring your bike in good working order (Air up YOUR TIRES!) and your helmet.  Sorry, no loaners provided.  You might also consider bringing a bottle of water and some way to carry it as you ride and a small snack.  If you have front / rear lights for your bike, great.  We recommend them for safety, but lights aren’t a deal-breaker.  Helmets ARE required for all VBC rides.

Is there a fee? Is membership in the club required?

No.  All VBC rides are free with the exception of the Ride Around Clark County. You do not have to be a club member and there is no requirement that you plan to join the club.

Where do we ride?

The routes will change to allow the riders some new scenery and new challenges to hone their skills.

Riding a bike on the road can be scary and it can be hard to get started on your own. We attempt to take the fear out of the experience by supporting the group with experienced ride leaders, providing good routes and tips, and promising to never leave a rider behind. By riding with coaches and others new to cycling, we hope to help each rider identify their goals and reach them, whether you’re starting your triathlete career or riding to the grocery store or want to ride with a group on club rides.

Ride Schedule:

Between 5:30PM and 5:45PM we'll introduce ourselves and ride leaders will review bike safety and the rules of the road. We will outline the route for the evening and do a quick check on the bikes.

Wheels roll at 5:45PM.  During and after the ride we will discuss various cycling topics including safety, gear, riding skills, bike maintenance, and nutrition. Bring questions for our ride leaders.

Expectations:

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the ride to sign up and be a part of the announcements and safety briefing.

Riders are expected to have read the club's Safe Riding Policy and  be familiar with club Ride Style Definitions. Please direct questions or concerns to the ride leader or our club Road Captain.

Helmets are required. Lights (front and rear), Road IDs, cell phones, tool kit including a tube that fits your tire, mirrors, and pump are recommended. Check your bike and gear before you come to make sure it's in good working order.  Seriously.

Routes vary.  If we post a ROUTE LINK, you can see it  online.   Please communicate with your leader if you decide to go off route.

Remember - we want to be awesome representatives of the cycling community in Clark County and spread a love and respect for our great sport by obeying all traffic laws and riding in a safe and courteous manner.  Ride safely and have fun!
