About the abnormal ride series -
I have been told that I am an abnormal rider. I can live with that, and this series will celebrate that. This series will be rides that are atypical of our normal club rides. The rides may be very scenic and/or long and/or hilly and/or out of the area. Or they may just be silly fun. You be the judge.

About this abnormal ride

Wednesday evening features the full moon, which will rise at about 6:55 pm. Sunset is about 6:10 pm when the sun drops behind the west hillls. Let's ride to Frenchman’s Bar and watch the setting of the sun across the Columbia River. We will then ride north and watch the moon rise in the east. The route is out Lower River Road past Vancouver Lake to the end of the road. There should be good views of both the sunset and moonrise. Start location is at the rear of the old Vancouver Library at Mill Plain and Ft Vancouver Way.

Front and rear lights are required as we will be returning during dusk to dark conditions.
Some of you may have questions about what it is like to ride at dusk or dark. The traffic out Lower River Road declines significantly at dusk.It also declines after you get past the industrial area. But there still are cars.Good visibility is essential. That means lights front and back. I also recommend wearing a jersey or jacket that has high visibility. Being in a group of bikes also is a big help in being seen by cars.It is the power of many blinking red lights. I have ridden this area many times with NW BoB in the dusk and dark.We have not had problems as a group ride.Still, it is best to do whatever you can to be seen.

Be aware that the temperatures may become cool or cold after sunset. Consider bringing cooler weather gear for the return trip.

This ride will be canceled if the weather prevents us from seeing the sunset and moonrise.

Food afterward at Woody's Tacos. 210 W Evergreen Blvd #700, Vancouver, WA 98660
