DESCRIPTION

First ride in an occassional series of gravel rides.

This is a gravel ride on the Crown Zellerback Rail-Trail starting in Scappose Oregon.  The route then follows the Scappose-Vernonia Highway for two miles before returning to gravel surfaces to climb and descend on Pittsburgh Rd, and other roads, before rejoining the CZ trail to return to the start.

The route runs through forested areas in the hills west of Scappose, OR.  It includes some territorial views from the upper parts of the climb on Pittsburgh Rd.

This is not a beginner gravel ride.  This ride includes variable road and trail surfaces including broken pavement, rocky roadbeds, chunky and loose gravel, dips, hollows, potholes and other hazards.

There are no services on route.  Riders need to carry enough food and water to complete the ride.  At times, riders may be several miles away from the nearest road access point.

Be sure to download the route to your GPS device prior to the ride. Much of the route will be in areas with little to no cell service or mobile data.  There are few road signs identifying roads in the remote areas.  It can be easy to get lost.

I believe my energy usage riding this route would be about the same as riding a metric century road ride.

Ride Policies

Faster or slower riders are welcome but be prepared to ride on your own.

All registered riders are welcome and may depart at any time to ride their own pace and distance; please let the ride leader know if you leave the group.
