Buddies List

Can you show up for 1 hour? Nov. 5, 5-6pm
Author Last Post
It was a great experience sitting in on the City Council meeting tonight, and hearing about the safe Lanes proposals for bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians. I learned a lot about
what all goes into planning and implementing lane structure.
I also wrote to the council members this afternoon to let them know that I'd like their support on this subject.  During the meeting, the council members acknowledged the speakers and also the people that came to hear and learn (like me).

Thanks for the invite Jan.  It was well worth the time!

Hi all,
Want some protected bike lanes? Can you show up for 1 hour at City Hall, Monday, Nov 5 for one hour? 5-6pm? No speaking necessary!
The city of Vancouver adopted a Complete Streets policy in 2017. Now they're going to build complete streets but need our support. Some parking removal in different areas (McLoughlin and 33rd, maybe Columbia) will be needed and while it's not the first time for our city to take that step (MacArthur, Grand Ave, Evergreen), it's never easy. Our VBC board wrote a letter of support.
What are Complete Streets? They're streets designed for the safety and range of needs of all road users: kids, adults, someone in a wheelchair, cars, transit, joggers--in other words, not just avid, hardcore cyclists who will ride pretty much anything. Complete Streets get people where they need to go with the safest connections, intersections, road treatments, and networks using the mode they choose (biking, bus, walking, driving). CS designs consider lighting, crosswalks, speed limit, etc. as needed.

Let's help our citizens get active, get where they need to go efficiently, and get there safely.
We need warm bodies at the meeting where the city planners present their ideas to city council. We can't speak that night; we're silent support. Date: Nov. 5th (Monday) 5-6pm.
If you'd like to write an email or call council and our mayor, that's great, too.
My understanding is that council will make decisions Nov. 5.
Thanks and we hope to see you there!
