Volunteer Incentive Program

Ride leader and volunteer activities are now covered under a single consolidated volunteer incentive program.  Volunteers and Ride Leaders will be awarded one credit per ride or club-sponsored volunteer event; one award per person per year.  Ride sheets must be submitted for all club-sponsored volunteer events and rides.  For volunteer events, the ride name on the ride sheet will be the event name.  Awards will be earned when 7 credits are accumulated within the calendar year.  Awards will be distributed at the annual volunteer appreciation night each January.  Ride leaders and volunteers alike will be referred to as volunteers in the program details below.

Are you an experienced ride leader or volunteer?  Or, would you like to volunteer or try leading a ride in 2010.  We have something for you.  Following is an overview of our volunteer incentive program.

1 - The "Chit Program" is a monthly drawing from a bag filled with names of VBC volunteers of record.  The chit winner receives a $20 gift certificate from the winner's choice of a VBC club sponsor.  Volunteers can win a maximum of two chit drawings per year (The Clay Kind Rule).

2 - The "Sock It to Me Program" rewards all new volunteers with a pair of socks after leading their first ride or participating in their first club-sponsored volunteer event.
3 - The "Vest Program" is the first annual award level of the volunteer incentive program.  Volunteers who earned a minimum 7 volunteer credits within the calendar year and who did not earn a vest in any prior year will receive a VBC vest.
4 - The "Jersey Program" is the second annual award level of the volunteer incentive program.  Only volunteers who previously earned a vest are eligible to earn a VBC jersey.  Volunteers who earned a minimum 7 credits within the calendar year and who did not earn a jersey in any prior year will receive a VBC jersey.

5 - The "Jacket Program" is the third annual award level of the volunteer incentive program.  Only volunteers who previously earned a vest and a jersey will be eligible to earn a VBC jacket.  Volunteers who earned a minimum 7 credits within the calendar year and who did not earn a jacket in any prior year will receive a VBC jacket.

6 - The "Alternative Award Option."  In lieu of the earned award in the vest-jersey-jacket sequence, those who earned a minimum 7 credits within the calendar year and already own a club vest, jersey, and jacket may receive a $50 gift certificate to shop for something else.

As in recent years you can earn volunteer incetive credits for impromptu rides.  Volunteers will receive credit for all impromptu rides they lead year round provide the following criteria are met:
  • At leat 5 riders participate and sign in for the ride, including the ride leader.
  • The ride announcement was emailed to the Buddies List the at least the day before the ride.
  • The ride must not conflict with previously scheduled rides in the opinion of the Road Captain.  (e.g., Impromptus must differ from schedule rides in start location, distance, terrain difficulty, pace, or in some prominent aspect such as a lunch ride, mountain-bike ride, etc.)
  • A completed ride sign-up sheet (waiver) must be turned in to the Assistant Road Captain.  If a ride sheet is NOT turned in to the Assistant Road Captain, a volunteer credit will NOT be earned.  Mail ride sign-up sheets via US Postal Service, drop them off in the VBC box at the River Maiden, or e-mail a scanned immage to the Assistant Road Captain.
